About us

SABOR A MI, GRILL, TEQUILA & BOTANAS was established by Elizabeth Hart and Martha Dovali and was conceived as a traditional Mexican home, offering traditional dishes and music, where our guests would feel welcome, comfortable and at home. Mi casa es su casa!

Searching for a great name they decided to call the restaurant Sabor a MI after the title of a romantic bolero song: Sabor a Mi.The song Sabor a Mi was internationally popularized by Trio Los Panchos, in their rendition with Eydie Gormé in 1964.

The translation of one verse is: A thousand years may pass, I don’t know if love exists in eternity, but there just as here, in your lips you’ll always have a taste of me. Liz and Martha liked the play on words that would mean someone would carry in their lips the flavor of the food served at SABOR A MI.

When Elizabeth was young, she used to help at her mother’s restaurant in Mexico, where she learned the roots and diverse flavors of the Traditional Mexican Cuisine. Those experiences and the years spent working in hotels such as Sheraton, Marriott, Courtyard, Golf clubs, and other Restaurants, have given her the knowledge and the confidence to develop a menu based primarily in Mexican Cuisine prepared with ingredients and seasonings that have given Mexican Food international recognition.

Mexico is a large country, and each one of its 30 states is lush with the culinary delicacies of its native ancestors and the humble ingredients they used to cook: Corn, Beans, Cactus, Magueys, Chiles, Prickly Pears, Pitaya, Cacao, Spices and Herbs.

Chef Hart has created the menu for Sabor a Mi with the same humble ingredients and spices of her forefathers and enriched them with the zest of her own hands and her imagination and creativity.

In Sabor a Mi’s menu we have dishes from all regions of Mexico: Sopes, Enchiladas, Flautas, Pozole, Birria, Mole Poblano, Tamales from Jalisco in central Mexico. Mixiotes, Molletes, Huaraches and more lamb dishes from State of Mexico. Sonora’s Carne Asada and flour tortillas. From the Southeast Yucatan we have the delicious Cochinita Pibil, Panuchos, Habanero chiles, and delicious tamales wrapped in plantain leaves. Oaxaca offers delicious Moles, Tlayudas, and of course the now trendy Mezcal.

The richness of Mexico’s oceans inspired the Ceviche Verde, Pescado Zarandeado, Oysters, Shrimp, and other kinds of Seafood. Botanas are small servings or tasty appetizers, which are traditionally served in all homes in Mexico, to be enjoyed together with a delicious drink, beer, tequila or cocktail before lunch or dinner are served.

Sabor a Mi’s Tequila Bar displays 100+ types of Tequila as a spirit to savor and enjoy. Tequila has become a spirit for connoisseurs and there are many fine tequilas just as good as the best cognacs. Our Bar menu offers a great selection of the finest imported tequilas that will allow our guests to taste them and select one or two their favorite. We are glad to share with those interested in the manufacturing and aging of tequilas, understand why it has achieved international acclamation. Sabor a Mi has been recognized by several sources such as Westway’s Magazine, Inland Valley Bulletin, Inland Empire Magazine, and recognized food critics such as Allan Borgen, David Cohen and David Allen.

Sabor a Mi was listed in January of 2019 among the 20 Best Restaurants in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and Yelp’s Best 10 Restaurants.
